Since being founded more than 140 years ago, the association has helped to ensure competitive and environmentally friendly cement production and high-quality concrete construction methods through its research. To this end, VDZ also participates in the creation and further development of national and international standards and technical regulations on behalf of its member companies. VDZ uses its expertise to convey the technical and economic points of view of Germany's cement manufacturers to policy-makers in Berlin and Brussels, thus supporting the companies in global competition.
The Association – Thought leader of the industry
VDZ (Verein Deutscher Zementwerke e.V.) is the economic, technical and scientific association for the German cement industry. Its aim is to uphold and promote the joint economic interests of the cement industry and to promote technology and science, including pre-competitive research and development in the field of manufacture and use of hydraulic binders.
Membership
VDZ's membership of 16 cement companies operate a total of 45 cement works in Germany. The industry employs a workforce of around 8,000 staff, who generate annual sales of around 3 billion euros. Three German firms and 20 foreign businesses are also associate members of VDZ.
Board of VDZ
The board of VDZ is represented by all full members of the association. The board currently consists of 26 members. At the top stands the president and his representative.
Bodies and committees
Together with representatives from the industry, employees from all companies of VDZ have advisory functions on committees and advisory boards regarding current issues, research projects and future areas of activity relating to the production of cement and concrete.
